Organic v Conventional food production We at fresh4you.co.uk decided initially not to include organic foodstuffs on our site, following detailed research, we found organic foodstuffs to be of no advantage but, more expensive than conventionally produced food. This has been backed up by French and Swedish research. Having said that we are aware of the dynamic nature of research, and new research is being carried out all the time so we will be keeping in touch, also we prefer to be customer driven, and if the demand for organic food is there we already have organic farmers willing to supply us. What the FSA (Food Standards Agency) say’s; ‘On the basis of current evidence, the Agency's assessment is that organic food is not significantly different in terms of food safety and nutrition from food produced conventionally. The Agency recognises that organic food contributes to consumer choice.’ The complete findings can be found at the link: http://www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/2003/jun/cheltenham
What the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) & CAP (Committee of Advertising Practice) ruled; ‘6.2 Marketers should not claim that organic food is safer or healthier than conventional food unless they hold convincing evidence that that is the case. Neither the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) nor CAP (Committee of Advertising Practice)is aware of such evidence and marketers are urged to check with the CAP Copy Advice team before making those claims;’ The complete findings can be found at the link: http://www.cap.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/C3D4C394-B01D-4D2A-BE57-47F896F7A0DF/0/organic_food.pdf Finally please let us have your comments to sales@fresh4you.co.uk as you are the people that matter. |
